From April through October, Paso Robles temperatures hover in the 80s and 90s. Indoor comfort depends on the performance of your cooling system. If you’re shopping for a new cooling system, it pays to know which system will most effectively meet your home comfort needs.

Heat Pump Installation

Air source heat pumps provide cooling as effectively as central air conditioners. They will also heat your home for less. Heat pumps have an effective efficiency of 300 percent. They perform well in temperatures above 30°F and can be connected to existing ducts. Furnaces can still be used for backup heat. Even so, energy costs will be lower than with a furnace alone.

Central AC Installation

This popular cooling system is generally paired with a furnace. The efficiency of an air conditioner is related to its SEER rating. SEER ratings measure efficiency and range from 13 to 22. The higher the SEER, the more efficient the unit. These systems do require duct work, but if you have a furnace, you already have ducts. Most of the time, a central AC can connect to existing ducts without reconfiguration.

Ductless Mini-split Installation

Mini-split systems cool your home without duct work. They can cool a room or a whole house. One outdoor unit supports up to four indoor units. Each indoor unit has its own thermostat and supplies cooled air to a room or zone. Mini-splits are highly efficient because you only cool the rooms you use. Ductless AC also prevents the loss of treated air that typically occurs with leaky ducts. Installation is quick, easy and minimally invasive.
